Railroad Crossing: Thirty-nine year old working mother struck by train at crossing with inoperative lights and gates. She sustained minor injuries to her hand and developoed a brain injury and psychiatric condition that left her totally disabled. Her husband received a $3.35 million for loss of consortium. Verdict is the third largest compensatory damage verdict in an Illinois personal injury case and the largest ever railroad crossing verdict in Illinois.

Medical Malpractice: Thirty-six-year-old with bacterial endocarditis that was misdiagnosed as a flare-up of a gastric ulcer. As a result of the dealy in proper diagnosis, the plaintiff suffered a stroke that left him mildy brain-damaged and paralyzed on the left side of his body. Verdict stood as the largest Illinois medical malpractice injury verdict for ten years.

Medical Malpractice: Forty-nine-year-old woman who died nine days following an outpatient tubal ligation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During the surgery, her bladder was punctured and she developed a flesh-eating infection that claimed her life. Verdict was against her treating gynecologists who failed to call in an infectious disease consultant and delayed four days before making a diagnosis of the soft tissue infection.

One-car accident in which the plaintiff fell asleep at the wheel, hit a telephone pole, and the car caught on fire. The plaintiff suffered serious burns to the leg and left arm. The Verdict was against the dealer who had repaired the car's fuel system in the months prior to the crash.

Wrongful Death: Twenty-one-year-old man, bar patron, shot and killed by manager/bouncer of bar, who used excessive force in brandishing and using a .38 caliber pistol to quell minor disturbance. Verdict was against manager/bouncer and owners of bar. Verdict stood for ten years as the largest ever in Kankakee County.
